Echolocation

Description

My game mechanic is the control of vision through the medium of sound and the concept of echolocation with the shooting of a bullet and the area of which its sound can be heard being the main process however if I find myself with extra time other methods of producing light via sound will be implemented.

List of Key Features

Light through sound

Constant darkness

Circular detection range around the bullet

Description of Interaction

The player would interact with the mechanic by picking up the base unreal gun and shooting a bullet this will produce a light from around the bullet through highlighting any block, wall or object that was within the detection range of the bullet. Below is an image mock-up of how the system will work with the white circle being the projectile.

Research

To make this mechanic I researched echolocation as that is mechanic however my research was extremely minimal as I already understood echolocation prior to implementing it and most of the documentation i found on it was mostly about the maths and real world impact of echolocation rather than anything that would apply to programming it.

Engine Requirements

The engine needed is UE5

Audio and Visual Requirements

Headphones may be necessary but aren't required as my mechanic is about the audio effect on the environment rather than the player hearing the audio. It might also be preferable to not use headphones since I substituted the footstep sound for the starter kit collapse sound effect and it is quite loud.

User Setup Guide

There will be no set up required for mine as it would just use the base first person player and gun so all the player would need to do is walk forward to get the gun and click the mouse to shoot the gun.
